The Main Chance and Beyond

"Behold I stand at the door and knock" (Revelation 3:20)

What happened to our hero when he visited the
Truchsessian Gallery?

A DECISION was made; something had been 'knock, knock, knocking at him for twenty years, a still small voice that he had ignored. Not enough time! too busy getting ahead! Blake wanted to be a Shakespeare and a Michaelangelo! to get ahead! to be one of the big boys! to achieve fame and fortune in the world!

But it wasn't in the cards. Filled with ambition, with the 'lust of the world', he had closed off the higher ground. For twenty years! And in his mind he had achieved nothing; they still had bread and beans for supper.

The DECISION was to give up the main chance. He relaxed, and Heaven flooded in. For twenty years the door had been closed! he opened it. The Bread of Life came in.

Then we got Milton, Jerusalem, The Gates of Paradise, The Vision of the Last Judgment, and finally the Book of Job. Masterpieces! the equivalent of Shakespeare. And he painted, etched, colored, drew magnificent pictures.

There were two things involved in this process (at least two)
1. The decision; he made it (you and I may make it).
2. God (Heavenly Visions) came in immediately!

That's the story of Blake's life (of our lives).
